Snorkelling needs very little, but the little it needs has to fit properly. The mask is the critical piece: if it does not seal against the face water gets in constantly and after half an hour you give up. The correct test is done dry, holding it against your face without the strap and breathing in through your nose to see whether it stays put. Fins are chosen on foot size and on the type of use, because a long fin pushes more but tires anyone who is not trained. How do I tell if the mask fits?
You test it dry: hold it against your face without putting the strap behind your head and breathe in through your nose. If it stays on by itself the seal is good, if it drops the shape does not suit that face. It takes ten seconds and it saves you a day of water in your eyes.
Which fins do children need?
They need fins in their own size, not a size up: a fin that is too big comes off with every kick and becomes unusable as well as frustrating. Tell us the foot sizes of the children and we will prepare the correct sizes for your dates.
Are the masks sanitised?
Equipment that goes against the face is cleaned and checked between one hire and the next, and it is part of the work we do before every handover. If you have particular requirements, say so when you write and we will take account of them in the preparation.
Do I need a wetsuit too?
In high summer hardly ever, but when you are snorkelling you float still and get cold faster than you would think, especially in spring and autumn. If you are coming out of season, consider a muta along with the set.
